The idea is an old one. a variation was an artist who was going blind, the Lamp ( or xem phim go Light) that Failed.

This was written by Kipling, hardly a ( Film-Noir) type. There have been a number of this type of drama where the lead character is in effect investigating his own homicide. sometimes he survives, other times does not. The subject matter is psychological, plays on fears - so could be considered film noir.
